Temodar, Temonat, Temcad, and Temodal that are frequently used for the treatment of certain types of brain tumours called anaplastic or astrocytoma glioblastoma multiforme. The main active constituent is Temozolomide. It is also used in combination with radiotherapy for newly diagnosed Glioblastoma multiforme. It is also used in adults and children three years of age and over with malignant Glioma such as Glioblastoma Multiforme or Anaplastic Astrocytoma when the tumour has returned or got worse after standard treatment. Temodal is used on its own in these patients. This medication belongs to a class of anticancer medicines called alkylating agents. It works by prohibiting cell division that result in slowing down the growth of tumours.
What are the precautions of Temozolomide?
This medicine should not be used in following medical condition
- You should not use this medication if you are allergic to generic Temozolomide or to any of its ingredients.
- You should not use if you have low blood cell counts (severe Myelosuppression).
- Do not use this medication if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant.
- Do not use this medication if you have liver and kidney problems, f hepatitis B or current hepatitis B infection.
How to administer Temozolomide?
This is an orally administered medication so administer this medication via mouth with sufficient amount of water. Take this medication each day at same time. The dose of this medication varies according to the condition. The dose ranges from 75 to 200 mg per square metre, once a day. The capsules should be taken whole without food.
What are the side effects of Temozolomide?
While using this medication follow some side effects such as Vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, alopecia, headache, fatigue, rash, Neutropenia or Lymphopenia.
