Lexapro comes under the class of antidepressant specially selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is used in adults or children above the age of 12 years for curing generalized anxiety disorder (adults) or major depressive disorder (adults or children above the age of 12 years). It is also used for social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder or panic disorder.
Dosage information: For curing, a depressive disorder in adolescents take 10 mg once in a day. In adults take 10 mg once in a day. For generalized anxiety disorder take 10 mg once in a day.
Contraindications: Do not take Lexapro, if you are on MAO inhibitor treatment. Not to be prescribed in children below 12 years of age. Do not consume if you are allergic to this drug. Brief out your doctor if you are suffering from liver disorder, seizure, epilepsy, heart disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, manic depression or drug abuse. Never to be taken by pregnant ladies and breastfeeding mothers.
Drug interactions: Escitalopram interacts highly with Pimozide and methylene blue injection. Taking this drug with MAO inhibitors will cause dangerous drug interactions. Quit usage of drugs like Omeprazole, Aspirin, Clonazepam, Simvastatin, Tramadol, Lipitor, Metformin, Gabapentin, Trazodone, Lisinopril and Xanax.
Precautions: Lexapro interferes with your senses, so avoid taking alcohol with it as it may cause dizziness. Always brief out your doctor if you are taking any other medicines with it as it may cause dangerous side effects. If you observe side effects like weight change, vision change, insomnia, drowsiness, increased sweating, and heartburn, immediately consult your physician. Taking NSAID's along with Lexapro may cause bruise or bleeding. Never stop this medication at once as you might see some withdrawal symptoms.
