TriCor is a highly effective medication used to reduce the cholesterol and triglycerides (fatty acids) in the blood. It lowers down the risk of atherosclerosis means clogging of the arteries with cholesterol and high triglyceride levels. TriCor consists of generic medicine called Fenofibrate.

 

What are the contraindications of TriCor?


The use of TriCor is contraindicated under certain medical conditions such as liver disease, severe kidney disease, gallbladder disease, heart disease, and hypersensitive reaction with TriCor or its other components. In the case of thyroid disorder and diabetes, this medicine should not be consumed.

 

What are the possible drug interactions of TriCor?


Some medicines can interfere with the activity of TriCor such as Warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven, and Colchicine. There is other cholesterol-lowering medicines or the medicines that weaken the immune system such as cancer medicine, and steroids show interactions with Fenofibrate.

 

What is correct dosing regimen of TriCor?


For the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, a patient has to take 145 mg of TriCor orally in a day with an enormous amount of water. For the treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia: Initially, a patient has to consume 48 mg to 145 mg of TriCor in a day. The dose of TriCor is adjusted according to patient response and the maximum dose of TriCor is 145 mg once daily.

 

What are the side effects of TriCor?


A patient can come across some side effects while using TriCor such as mild stomach pain, back pain, headache, unusual bleeding and easy bruising and runny or stuffy nose.

 

What are safety measures a patient has to follow while using TriCor?


  • You are advised not to drink alcohol-containing beverages while consuming TriCor because it may damage your liver while taking TriCor.
  • If you had Cholestyramine, Colesevelam, or Colestipol, then you should wait for 4 to 6 hours after consuming these medicines before taking this medicine.
  • A patient with preexisting gallbladder disease should not use this medicine.
