Benicar is a phenomenal drug used in the management of hypertension. It helps in lowering high blood pressure in the patient who suffers from hypertension and prevents strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Benicar contains an eminent medicine called Olmesartan medoxomil belongs to angiotensin receptor blockers class of medicine. It helps in the relaxing and dilating the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.
Under what medical conditions the use of Benicar is prohibited?
The use of Benicar is contraindicated under certain medical conditions such as biliary obstruction, pregnancy, anuria and hypersensitivity to Olmesartan medoxomil. Benicar should not be used by diabetic patient or patient with kidney disease along with any medication that contains Aliskiren.
Drug interactions of Benicar:
There are some medicines show interaction with Benicar and reduces its therapeutic efficacy such as Aliskiren, Lithium, Benazepril, Lisinopril, Ibuprofen, Corticosteroids, Naproxen, anti-allergic medicines, and birth control pills containing Drospirenone.
Dosing schedule of Benicar:
Benicar tablet is commercially available in two different dosing strengths are 20 mg and 40 mg. Initially, a patient has to consume one tablet of Benicar 20 mg once in a day with the enormous amount of water. A patient who requires a further decrease in blood pressure after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose may be increased up to 40 mg.
Things to be kept in mind while using Benicar:
- You're advised not to use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while you are taking Benicar.
- You are required to check your blood pressure on the regular basis.
- You are not supposed to drink alcohol along with this medicine.
- If you have liver or kidney diseases then use this medicine with caution.
